Christian Dior by John Galliano vintage black kimono sleeve bar jacket Debut collection 1997
Possibly one of John Galliano’s most dramatic & historically important collections for his debut as creative Director for Christian Dior fall 1997.
I mean nobody could ever touch, or has come remotely near to his genius. The show blurred lines between fashion & cinema, the elaborate sets , mink hems, decadent fabrics & cultural inspiration transport you to another dimension..
This glorious Dior new look bar Jacket was worn on the runway by no other than one of my personal favourites and original super model ‘‘Linda Evangelista’.
a glorious silhouette that is flattering for many, an armoured structured kimono shoulder, with nipped waist a super fresh & sharp take on the original bar but with of course a Galliano twist. the lower part of the jacket has built in pads to accentuate the wearers waist further. A extremely clever trick of the eye. my personal favourite design feature is the Dior house signature cannage style satin lapel which was originally taken from the ‘‘Napoleon III’’ Chairs Monsieur Dior used to seat his guests on during his early fashion shows.
the jacket is fully lined with gorgeous pink lilac silk & is in excellent condition it has barely been worn. I have also paired it with a vintage black Galliano crepe skirt from 1998.
the most perfect investment jacket that truly is a work of art.
